Bob Gale studied art at the Royal West of England College of Art in Bristol. Soon after that he joined a design studio in a printing company, painting in his spare time. After 5 years he left the company and exhibited his paintings for the first time at the students union in Bristol University.
In 1972 he painted stage sets for the Albany Empire Theatre in Deptford, London.
In 1975 he had a one man show of paintings at the Max Plank Institute in Gottingen, Germany.
In 1980 he took a break from painting to make jewellery using inlaid semi-precious stones.
In 1982 he showed his jewellery at a jewellery exhibition at Liberties in Harrods, London.
In 1984 he resumed painting. From this time he has exhibited regularly in Bristol, Bath and other West Country galleries.
Selected one man exhibitions include Bear Steps Gallery in Shrewsbury, The Happening Gallery in Bristol, Freuds Gallery in Oxford, The Stable Gallery at Edgebaston and the Bristol Guild Gallery.
Bob says painting is about a continual discovery of new channels of creativity even if one does not at first recognise the end result. There is no point in turning out the same picture in a formulaic fashion.
